About Science Centre, Port Blair
The Science Centre is part of the national network of regional science museums, and it does what those do well: exhibits you pull, spin, shout into and stand inside, arranged so that nobody has to read anything to get the point.
The ocean gallery is the one with local relevance, covering island formation, tides, reef ecology and the 2004 tsunami — the last of these handled directly, with material on how the wave hit the islands and what changed afterwards. Elsewhere there are the standard optics, mechanics and electricity galleries, plus a small outdoor science park.
For adults travelling without children it is skippable. With children, on a hot afternoon or a wet one, it is the most useful two hours in Port Blair, and it costs almost nothing.
It sits centrally, so it is easy to drop into between the Cellular Jail and the evening show.

Indoor and air-conditioned, which makes it the obvious call in the middle of a hot day or during monsoon rain.

- Show timings for the auditorium are posted at the entrance and are limited — check on arrival.
- Skip it if you are travelling without children and short on days.
