Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex

Where every Ross Island and North Bay boat leaves from

Overview

About Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex

Almost every visitor passes through here, usually at eight in the morning with a boat ticket in hand. The complex is the departure point for the Ross Island and North Bay day trips, and the ticket counters, the ID check and the boarding queue all happen on this jetty.

It is also a water-sports centre in its own right. Jet skis, speedboats, banana rides and paddle boats run from the harbour front, which makes it a useful hour for anyone with a spare afternoon or a family that wants the activity without the day trip. Prices are lower than at North Bay because there is no boat transfer in them.

The setting is the harbour rather than open sea, so the water is not the turquoise of the brochures. What it does offer is convenience: it sits on Marina Park in central Port Blair, minutes from the bazaar and the museums.

Arrive early on a day-trip morning. Boarding is by manifest, ID is checked against the ticket, and boats leave on their scheduled time rather than when everybody has arrived.

Boat sailings and water sports both pause in rough weather, which is frequent between June and September. Mornings are calmest for the island crossings.
